Project Overview
Dwalganup Homestead was built in 1935 by architect William Harry Jefferis, who designed many beautiful historic buildings now considered a key part of Western Australia’s architectural heritage. The home’s beautiful features highlight the striking Art Deco influence distinctive of Jefferis’ style.
This project was comprised of restorative work to the ceilings and walls. The ceilings feature stunning roses and ornate cornice, but were sagging and in need of careful repair to ensure their ongoing integrity. We used modern building techniques to carefully lift and secure the ceilings, replastered, and repaired the decorative mouldings. We also repaired defects in the rendered walls and prepared the area for painting. We were honoured to help preserve a unique piece of WA history for years to come.
Scope of Work
Ceilings
We carefully lifted the ceiling over time to reduce excess stress applied to the plaster. Once flush with the battens, we secured the ceiling and applied fibreglass rovings.

Repair defects
We repaired plaster defects and cracks, and repaired the decorative mouldings.

Plastering
Ceilings were flushed and additional fibreglass sheeting applied for extra support. A two-coat topping system was applied.

Render repairs
Wall render cracks were repaired, and the area was prepared for painting.
